"The World is threatened. An ultimate enemy looms. Only one hope for mankind."
Evangelion
In The Beginning:
In the year 2000 a mysterious catastrophy occured. No one is sure of what it is but it wiped out half of earth's population in an instant. But according to the UN the catastrophy was a mere case of a meteor hitting the planet and dubbed it the second impact in accordance to the theorized meteor which wiped out the dinosaurs. But there were many who would suggest that something far greater actually occured.
15 years have passed and mysterious creatures named Angels have appeared. These titans have caused mass destruction to what is left of the human population. The military have tried and failed time and time again proving that conventional arsonals enen the powerful N2 bombs were useless.Nothing to date were able to penetrate the mysterious force fields who protect the Angels from harm.
It was then discovered that the biological giants known as the Evangelions were the only ones who possess similer fields. But the problem was is that the Evangelions required a pilot who can perfectly synchronize with them.By perfectly synchronizing the pilots would extend their senses into the evas.Only a special select group of children born after the impact were able to synchronize with the Evangelions. Was it just a coincident that these children possess the ability to pilote the Evas or was it some thing more biblical? These select few have all been destined to protect mankind, and so it begins............
What is Neon Genesis Evangelion Exactly and Why is it so Great?
Neon Genesis Evangelion is the masterpeice created from the mind of Anno Hideaki. It is the story of a young boy named Ikari Shinji who is a pilot of a biological giant called an Evangelion. He and other chosen pilots must fend off the Angels to save what is left of mankind. But if you think that this is just another Mech anime your dead wrong !!! There is much more to this story than just a couple of cute kids running around kicking Angel butt and saving the day. This series dwells on our beliefs and even questions the meaning of life in a way.The tale also uses phylisophical terms aplenty.
The reason I and probably most others like it is that it does'nt fall into that mech cliche that we often see. Instead it deals out the theory of why life of humans was created and makes you think it over. But the phylisophical meanings are'nt the only things that makes this a great series, it's also the character personalities and relationships. Unlike a lot of animes out there you realize that these are'nt just perfect heroes who get out of everything with only a scratch or two and is always upholding the law and justice. These characters are just humans with their own dilemas and heartaches. And trust me these guys are far from super perfect heroes !
Another great reason why people like it so much is probably the music that the series has to offer. If you have'nt heard a single song from Evangelion I highly recommend that you download any song from the series and have a nice long listen !!
So to conclude I have to say that this is a masterpeice through and through and no self respecting anime fan should pass it up !!!!
